Abstract / Description: | A test has been carried out to evaluate the prospects to read out scintillating fibers by avalanche photodiodes (APD). A BICRON BCF-12 fiber of 2x2 mm ^ 2 cross section and 10, respectively 35 cm length has been used. A lightsensor, a Hamamatsu 1x1 mm^ 2 APD was coupled to the fiber. Electrons from a ^106Ru source, passing the fiber, produce about 100 photoelectrons. Prospects for other geometries and possible improvements are discussed. |
