Input of special characters and symbols on eDoc

Every character in the database of eDoc will be encoded in UTF8 format. Characters might be entered into the submission masks of eDoc in various ways. Two are described below. Please be aware that some browsers have limitations in handling of Unicode characters. We kindly ask you to use one of our recommended browsers to avoid possible problems with character input.

  • Special Characters / Symbols Helper
On every step on the submission masks you can find a small tool which will help you to input special characters. Just click on "Special Characters/Symbols Helper" which you will find in the upper right corner of the submission interface.

This will open a small pop-up window containing frequently used special characters and symbols.

Please copy the symbol or character you want to use and position the cursor on the field where you want to paste your character.
    Hint: On windows platforms ctrl+c = copy ; ctrl+v = paste.

  • Office Programs
You might want to use Open Office Writer or MS Word for editing special characters or symbols. A detailed step by step guide explains you how to proceed.

Microsoft Word

  1. Open a new (empty) document in Microsoft Word
  2. On the top navigation bar choose "Insert" -> Symbol... The following screen appears:

  4. By clicking on the "Insert" button, the desired character is automatically pasted in your document.
  5. Select the character you have inserted in your document, mark it with your mouse and copy it (either right mouse click or ctrl+c)
  6. Switch to eDoc in your browser window
  7. Place your cursor on the position where you want to input the character
  8. Paste the character into the field (right mouse click or ctrl+v)
